Building the mind of the machine

I’m an AI Research Assistant and student based on the U.S. East Coast. My work spans large language model optimization, RAG pipelines, DCNN architecture design, and deploying applications using Docker and FastAPI.

Davis Institute Research Assistant & Tutor

➤ Engineered private AI solutions through fine-tuning and RAG, optimizing open-source LLMs for accurate content filtering in applied research settings, improving accuracy by 45%.

➤ Conducted and presented independent research on embedding algorithms, retrieval augmented generation, and local fine-tuning methods.

➤ Served as a technical consultant to cross-disciplinary partners (Economics, Philosophy, CS), translating complex technical capabilities into practical research applications and policy guidelines.

OWLab Research Assistant

➤ Architected and trained deep learning models (DCNNs, ARTFLOW) in TensorFlow to model primate visual mechanisms, identifying key computational trends that outperformed baseline models by 25%.

➤ Extended a custom DCNN library built on Tensorflow (>10,000 lines) to process and train highly customizable ML models on sequential data.

➤ Designed, evaluated, and conducted Unity-based (C#) experiments for data collection across 50+ participants.

Where I've Worked

✦ The Davis Institute for Artificial Intelligence is the first institute for artificial intelligence at a small liberal arts college. Our mission is to cultivate AI innovation for good through interdisciplinary research and education opportunities.

✦ At the Optic Flow and Wayfinding Lab (OWLab), we build neural models and perform experiments that link perception, action, and behavior with the brain, with a focus on human navigation.

Work Experience

2023-2025

CS Department Teaching Assistant

➤ Partnered with faculty to iteratively refine course materials, translating observed trends in student performance into targeted updates for lab assignments and lecture content.

➤ Facilitated weekly TA hours to help students learn CS concepts and debug code, providing them with a deeper understanding of course materials and independent problem-solving frameworks.

➤ Evaluated complex programming assignments for 78 students across three academic terms, maintaining a rigorous feedback loop for the course’s primary technical assessments.

Art & Design

When I'm not programming I enjoy photography and making art. I take on paid illustration and design commissions through referrals and I've sold in-person at the Elm City Small Press Fest.

AI Beyond Programming

✦ My work at the Davis Institute for Artificial Intelligence was featured in Colby's second issue of the Journal of Writing With and About AI; you can find the whole thing here.

✦ As a student leader, I've been interviewed for a couple articles about Colby's Institute for Artificial Intelligence; check them out here and here.
